Polarized Glasses in Illinois

For fun in the sun, almost everybody needs polarized glasses!

Polarized glasses block glare from bright sunlight to give you clear vision for outdoor activities in sunny weather. You can buy polarized glasses off the rack, but prescription polarized glasses can do a lot more to help you enjoy your precious time outdoors. Here are three things our optometrists at Assure Vision in Arlington Heights, and Barrington, IL want you to know about polarized glasses.

Polarized glasses

Polarized glasses are essential for enjoying your time outdoors.

Polarized glasses aren't ordinary sunglasses. They are coated with a laminate film that blocks horizontal rays from the sun. This is the sunlight that gets scattered off water or pavement that causes glare. The film filters out glare, but allows vertical rays of sunlight through so you have clear vision of the outdoor world. Polarized glasses can make a huge difference in how you enjoy your time boating, skiing, or participating in sports outdoors. They can also make outdoor hobbies like gardening and playing with the kids easier on the eyes.

You can't get corrective polarized glasses off the rack.

If you wear contacts or you have implanted lens, yes, you can get good results from the polarized glasses you can buy at a sporting goods store, even if at Assure Vision in Arlington Heights and Barrington we have a much better selection of frames that look good and fit your unique facial contours.

But no store that sells polarized glasses in a rack display with vision correction for nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. You can only get corrective polarized glasses from your eye doctor, after a quick eye exam.

Polarized glasses are the best choice for almost all people who have problems with sunlight and glare.

There are a very few people who don't respond well to polarized glasses. Some people have photoreceptor cells in the back of their eyes that pick up vertical light in ways that give it a 3-D effect. If you are one of these rare people, your eye doctor will know after a quick eye exam. And we won't recommend you polarized glasses! Instead, we can provide other solutions for glare for you.

For most people, polarized glasses have solid advantages for outdoor activities:

  • True color perception.
  • Better contrast and visual clarity.
  • Less eye strain and greater visual comfort.
  • And no more reflections and glare!

Assure Vision has polarized glasses that will give you great outdoor vision. Make your appointment today!
